Abstract:
Gears in planetary gear set operate with various stress levels and with
various stress cycle’s numbers. Failure arises in the place where these conditions are
the worst. This is the reason that failure ofone gear causes replacement of complete
gear assembly, including gears utilized partly only. Elementary reliability oriented to
every potential failure in planetary gear set can indicate it and direct to look for
solution. The objective of the article is methodology presentation to identify distribution
of elementary reliabilities (Design reliabilities) and to discuss variant solutions which
lead to equalize service life and design reliability of all gears in planetary gear set. The
case study for this kind of analysis is selected planetary gear unit for bucket wheel
traction of bucket wheel excavator.
