Abstract:
This paper present one method of improving efficiency characteristics of spark ignition engine. Gas dynamics of intake system plays a key role in deciding the performance of an engine. For this paper Ricardo/WAVE software was used, which provides a fully integrated treatment of time-dependent fluid dynamics and thermodynamics by means of 1-D formulation. The results obtained herein include engine torque, power and efficiency of internal combustion engine with variable intake manifold length. According to the simulation graphs, in order to increase the engine performance, plenum length must be extended for low engine speeds and shortened as the engine speed increases.
